Known for his authenticity and engaging rehearsal style, Timmons creates spaces where singers feel both supported and inspired. His rehearsals are collaborative, thoughtful, and energizing, encouraging each singer to take ownership of their voice while contributing to a unified ensemble sound. Whether working with developing young singers or experienced adult musicians, he is committed to helping individuals grow with confidence, artistry, and joy.

A seasoned vocal pedagogue, Timmons brings a clear and accessible approach to vocal technique, emphasizing healthy, sustainable singing and expressive freedom. His teaching reflects a balance of precision and care, equipping singers of all backgrounds and experience levels with the tools they need to succeed while fostering a strong sense of community within the ensemble.
 

Timmons is a choral conductor, music educator, vocalist, and presenter with nearly two decades of experience in choral music education and vocal pedagogy. He is a frequent clinician and guest conductor throughout Pennsylvania, having recently conducted the 2025 PMEA District 12 Junior High Choral Festival and the 2025 Perry County Junior High Choral Festival.

 

A sought-after presenter, Timmons has delivered sessions for the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA), and the Pennsylvania chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA-PA). His presentations have focused on vocal pedagogy, choral instruction, adolescent voice development, and LGBTQ+ advocacy in music education. Recent presentations include Effective Vocal Pedagogy for Choirs at the NAfME Eastern Division Conference, ACDA-PA Summer Conference, and PMEA District 11 Conference, as well as Vocal Pedagogy for Tenor-Bass Voices at the 2024 PMEA State Conference.

 

In addition to his work as an educator and clinician, Timmons maintains an active performing career. He currently serves as Bass I and Tenor II Section Leader with the Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus and as Bass Section Leader with The Choristers. From 2023–2025, he served as Artistic Director of the Rainbow Chorale of Delaware, leading a 60-member LGBTQ+ community chorus.

 

As a professional singer, Timmons has performed extensively as a soloist and section leader throughout the Philadelphia region and was a member of the Philadelphia Singers, the former resident chorus of the Philadelphia Orchestra. His performance experience also includes leading operatic roles, orchestral solo appearances, faculty recitals, and international concert tours.

In addition to his work with Second Verse Chorale, Timmons serves as Director of Choral Music at Germantown Academy and the Music Director for the esteemed Belfry Theatre. Across all his work, he remains committed to building welcoming musical communities where every voice is valued and every story has a place.

Jon Matthew Timmons holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Delaware and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance from York College of Pennsylvania. He also earned his Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in K-12 Music through Temple University’s certification program, further grounding his work in both educational practice and vocal science.
