Jon Matthew Timmons

Jon Matthew Timmons is the Founder and Artistic Director of Second Verse Chorale, bringing over two decades of experience as a choral conductor, vocal pedagogue, and community-centered arts leader. His work is grounded in a deep belief that singing has the power to bring people together—fostering connection, understanding, and a shared sense of purpose.

Known for his authenticity and engaging rehearsal style, Timmons creates spaces where singers feel both supported and inspired. His rehearsals are collaborative, thoughtful, and energizing, encouraging each singer to take ownership of their voice while contributing to a unified ensemble sound. Whether working with developing young singers or experienced adult musicians, he is committed to helping individuals grow with confidence, artistry, and joy.

A seasoned vocal pedagogue, Timmons brings a clear and accessible approach to vocal technique, emphasizing healthy, sustainable singing and expressive freedom. His teaching reflects a balance of precision and care, equipping singers of all backgrounds and experience levels with the tools they need to succeed while fostering a strong sense of community within the ensemble.

As a sought-after clinician and guest conductor, Timmons regularly leads honor choirs, festivals, and professional development sessions throughout the region. He is widely respected for his ability to make complex musical ideas approachable and for cultivating inclusive environments where singers and educators feel welcomed, valued, and empowered.

In addition to his work with Second Verse Chorale, Timmons serves as Director of Choral Music at Germantown Academy and has held leadership roles with ensembles across the greater Philadelphia region, including the Rainbow Chorale of Delaware. Across all his work, he remains committed to building welcoming musical communities where every voice is valued and every story has a place.

Jon Matthew Timmons holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Delaware and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from York College of Pennsylvania. He also earned his Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in K-12 Music through Temple University’s certification program, further grounding his work in both educational practice and vocal science.
